My eclectic style ranges from traditional landscape to the non objective. Folly paintings are begun in the studio working with still life setups. The design is simplified until a more illustrative presentation has been found. Then using a colorful palette of oils, I paint with transparent layers until the subject becomes opaque. Line and visual texture play an important role in simplifying each object until the painting is complete.
Red is usally an integral color in my folly paintings. It's use excites and grounds the subject at the same time. Color plays against color in Bottle Blue. The crisp white of the flower against the red background - the intense blue of the transparent bottle and the lime green of the pears all blend in a calypso melody.
