THE ARTIST
Carly's art instruction has been self-guided for more than thirty years. This freedom to explore has enabled her to paint beyond the expected. She says, "when you have no expectations, you have no fear - painting is as simple as breathing...you can't help but do it."
Creating larger works from smaller plein air sketches allows Carly to explore the content of a subject rather than the reality of it. "After painting the obvious, I can explore the subject with creative confidence. Color, texture, line, shapes...all become important to the final outcome but overall I want to allow the viewer to connect to the subject thru my vision."
Carly paints with oils, dry pastels, and oil pastels. She is the founder and coordinator of the Oil Pastel Society and has published articles at WetCanvas.com and with Daniel Smith Art Supply. Her work has won numerous awards and can be found in private and corporate collections across the country. She teaches workshops in pastels and oils, preferring the outdoor setting, and is available for private lessons in all 2-D mediums. Ongoing Thursday classes at her studio, The Art Cottage, in Darien, GA, include oil and acrylic painting.
